Ramtane Lamamra, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres’ personal envoy for Sudan, met today with a Rapid Support Forces (RSF) delegation at the UN headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya. The meeting was attended by RSF representatives Maulana Muhammad Mukhtar Al-Nour, Ezzedine Al-Safi, and Nizar Sayed Ahmed, in the presence of Clementine Salami, the UN resident and humanitarian coordinator in Sudan.
The discussions focused on enhancing cooperation between the UN and RSF to facilitate humanitarian aid deliveries to affected regions and ensure the protection of civilians. They also addressed challenges hindering safe and rapid humanitarian access.
The RSF delegation reaffirmed their commitment to intensifying efforts to deliver humanitarian aid and protect civilians. They also highlighted the significant steps already taken to improve aid deliveries.
Additionally, the delegation informed Lamamra about the systematic aerial bombings by Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) warplanes targeting innocent civilians, hospitals, water sources, and public facilities. They emphasized the indiscriminate acts of ethnic- and tribal-based rights abuses committed by the SAF and its allied militias under the guidance of the former regime. This includes preventing innocent civilians from obtaining official documents, as well as acts of murder, torture, and detention based on ethnic identity.
Both parties agreed to continue their meetings and to intensify efforts to enhance cooperation and coordination to alleviate civilian suffering.
